This newspaper, the Patriotic Vanguard, was founded on July 30, 2005 by a Sierra Leonean journalist in exile, Gibril Gbanabome Koroma (photo) and a couple of friends in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Sierra Leone itself and other places around the world.
It quickly became a virtual meeting place where Sierra Leoneans from all walks of life would meet to share ideas and to comment on happenings in their native country which had been brought to its knees by a very brutal and senseless war.
Today, the award-winning PV is firmly established as a leading Sierra Leonean online newspaper in the minds and psyches of Sierra Leoneans and non-Sierra Leoneans all over the world.
As usual, we thank all the correspondents and contributors that had and continue to help shape the direction and destiny of this symbol of selfless service, sacrifice and love for one’s country of origin. Thank you all, you are too numerous to name.
Meanwhile as we normally do each year, we call on our readers and well wishers to send us their observations, comments and suggestions on how we can improve this flagship of excellence in Sierra Leonean journalism.
Please continue to support and pray for us as you have been doing over the years. We will continue to innovate and lead the way as usual; we can promise you that.But we will need your continued support always. Continue to advertise in the Patriotic Vanguard. Donations are also welcome.
For those who have been trying to distract us from our work, they are just wasting their time. There is a saying in Krio which goes: If yu do good, yu do am for yusef, if you do bad yu do am for yusef; loosely translated, it conveys the English adage "As you made your bed, so you shall lie on it." This saying is also present in other Sierra Leonean languages.
In Temne or Thaimneh it is encapsulated in the saying: "Tamoo, klope ortamrmoo " (It’s nobody else’s business, but yours).
Having said that, we now have the pleasure to call on you, ladies and gentlemen, to please join us to celebrate eleven years of the Patriotic Vanguard newspaper on Saturday July 30, 2016.
