The University of Makeni will observe its third convocation ceremony on Saturday 15th February 2014 at the Fatima Campus in the capital of the Northern region of Sierra Leone, Makeni City.
According to the Director of Development and Planning who also doubles as the Coordinator for the convocation ceremony, Mr. Emmanuel A.B. Turay, about 100 students are to graduate this year from the various faculties and departments.
This year’s convocation, he explained, will be more remarkable as the University of Makeni has produced their first set of Law graduands who have been admitted into the Law School in Freetown.
This convocation will also admit a local Sierra Leonean business man, Mr. Vincent L.Kanu, to the degree of Doctor of Social Entrepreneurship (Honoris Causa) for his achievements and achievements in the business sector. Several personalities will also be awarded certificates of excellence taking into consideration their service to the community.
The first set of graduands for Masters in Sustainable Development including the present Mayor of Makeni City will also receive their awards during this convocation, Turay added.
The UNIMAK planning director further disclosed that the MBA Programme in Global Business and Sustainability will also be launched during the convocation ceremony. The UNIMAK MBA Program, he maintained, aims at creating sustainable higher entrepreneurship education in Sierra Leone through training and to support young, local entrepreneurs involved in the start-up of economically viable and environmentally sustainable businesses in the sectors of agriculture and energy access/efficiency. The MBA programme is expected to start in July this year.
The ceremony, he concluded, will be climaxed with a grand lunch organised for invited dignitaries and guests from home and abroad in the newly constructed 600 capacity auditorium at the Fatima Campus in Makeni city.
The University spokesman finally also extended an invitation to all and sundry to attend this year’s convocation on Saturday 15th February 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Fatima Campus in Makeni.
