A rather bizarre scene occurred in the early hours of last Sunday in which a man who raped a woman and running for cover following the sound of a gunshot was himself later beaten to death. He has been identified by credible police sources as a member of the underworld, a leading member of the gang that had terrorized the area.
Yeabu Sesay of Wellington who usually wakes up very early to prepare porridge for sale suddenly heard indiscriminate gunshots and not knowing what was happening, abandoned the kitchen and decided to flee to safety.
Unfortunately for her, there were two men at the place where she went to seek refuge whose mission she did not know.
The men then began raping her and while this was going on, residents in the area, who came out after the shooting had subsided later discovered the two men and they identified then as members of an armed gang. The name of one of them was giving as Charles Lassayo.
They were both mercilessly beaten and later died on the way to the police station. Both corpses were later transferred to the Connaught Hospital mortuary.
