Canada’s Black Justice Strategy

16 September 2023 at 19:10 | 1153 views

Black communities in Canada continue to live with the effects of prejudice, discrimination, and hatred—from unconscious bias to anti-Black hate crimes and violence. These systemic inequalities have resulted in the overrepresentation of Black people in Canada’s criminal justice system, including as victims of crime.

Today, the Government of Canada officially launched engagement to inform the development of Canada’s Black Justice Strategy. 12 Black-led community-based organizations from across Canada will be holding a variety of engagement activities, and Justice Canada launched an online survey to complement their work.

This engagement will ensure that Canada’s Black Justice Strategy is grounded in the experiences of Black people in Canada, reflecting the diverse history, backgrounds, experiences and regional realities of Black communities.
