Dear colleagues,

A CLARION CALL

I write to formally declare to you my intention to contest for the position of President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists when elections are held later this year as required by our constitution.

My intention has been borne out of my inner feeling to de-link our association from the pockets and dictates of businessmen and politicians, something that is at present having a serious negative impact on the way members of the public see our association.

To achieve this, I want to ensure that there are no Special Interests in my service to our noble association. In this regard, I want to run a clean and civilised campaign for which I depend on your assistance, both by way of voting and helping with financial contributions.

I hereby guarantee that I will keep a correct, concise and detailed account of whatever contributions you make towards achieving this, and a proper account will be kept of every cent spent. After our victory, I will publicly give a clean breast of what was expended and how. If there are any leftovers of either cash or kind donated, I assure you that I will pass them on to the SLAJ Secretariat.

Any contribution towards this effort will serve as a lemon, with which I will prepare lemonade for the betterment of our association which needs to be owned by its members once again, after a hiatus.

Looking forward to your kind assistance.
