IMATT, the International Military Advisory Training Team has recommended a downsizing of the Sierra Leone army and about 2,500 men and women across the board are to be shown the back door.

When the Defence Council meets in the next 72 hours, it is going to consider this Core Review which suggests that the current strength of the army which is about 10,000 is too large when compared to a country like Ghana larger in size than Sierra Leone and with a military strength of about 8,000.

Ghana has two brigades; namely Northern Brigade based in Kumasi and the Southern Brigade based in Accra.

Sierra Leone, according to our investigation, has three brigades based in Makeni, Bo and Kenema in addition to the Freetown Garrison.

It was also revealed that before the election, the British led IMATT had suggested to former President Kabbah that the strength of the army be cut down to 5,000 which he vehemently overruled.
