At a well attended dinner and town hall meeting in Atlanta vice president Solomon Berewa started his address by thanking the Sierra Leonean public in Georgia, for their support during the sudden death of his wife,Mrs. Deborah Berewa, last September.

The vice president then outlined the achievements of the present administration which include bringing peace to the people, disarming the rebels ,taking refugees back to their homes, constructing good roads and rebuilding schools and hospitals in every chiefdom in the country.

Mr. Berewa stated that the Sierra Leone Peoples Party(SLPP) took political power in Sierra Leone at a time when the country was faced with a senseless war that destroyed every fabric of our development. Therefore,he said, the first priority of the SLPP was to end the war and resettle the people.

Mr.Berewa went on to say that the next priority of his government is to improve on the outdated electricity and water supply systems in the country. He said that it would not have made any sense to improve on these facilities without getting peace in the country because rebels would have damaged them.

Mr. Berewa(photo, middle) said that his government has received generators that will soon be installed in the country to improve on the electricity facilities and they are finalising work on the Bumbuna hydro-electricity project. He said they are also working on the Guma dam to increase its capacity to suit the present population in Freetown.

Answering to questions about the cleaning of the city of Freetown, he said that in accordance with the law, the responsibility for cleaning Freetown is vested in the Freetown City Council but since the Council neglected its statutuary responsibilities, his government has taken over that responsibility. He said that government has received dump trucks for the cleaning of the city and they are now cleaning the city of Freetown.

Vice president Berewa promised that as president, he will build a working permanent system that will make Sierra Leone continue to move forward. He also assured his people that his administration will ensure equal rights and freedom for all Sierra Leoneans at all times. Mr. Berewa called on members of other political parties to put the interest of the country above the interest of their parties.

The Vice President then called on Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora to be willing to make sacrifices for the country, encouraging them to go back and help in rebuilding the country. He asked for the support for all Sierra Leoneans to help him put the country back on its right footing.

During his visit to Atlanta,Mr.Berewa went to the African Heritage museum where he received an award for his faithful and devoted services to Sierra Leone and its people. He also received an award on behalf of President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah.
