Three Sierra Leonean Ambassadors in Europe, their Excellencies Jongopie Stevens (Germany), Dr. Christian Kargbo (Brussels/EU) and High Commissioner Edward M. Turay (UK/Ireland) on Saturday stormed the city of Frankfurt in Germany to attend a Fund Raising and Cultural show organised by the German Chapter of the All People’s Congress party.
The occasion eventually turned out to be a huge social gathering of Sierra Leoneans from Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich, Bonn, London, the Netherlands and Brussels.
In his welcome address as host, Ambassador Stevens praised the APC members in Frankfurt for the remarkable work in not only assembling a large number of party members in Germany but bringing together three reputable Ambassadors in one social gathering.
He admonished the APC members not to relent but to build on this achievement and continue to strengthen the party in that part of Europe.
He gave a brief rundown on the achievements of both the past and present APC governments.
“The APC you all know is a party renowned for infrastructural development and that policy has not changed up till today”, he said whilst narrating the numerous ongoing and completed infrastructural developments undertaken by the government of President Ernest Bai Koroma.
Hon. Eddie Turay informed the gathering about the planned Golden Jubilee celebrations in which Britain has agreed to hold a joint parade with members of the Sierra Leone Army on Independence Day in Freetown. The President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, according to HC Turay, is expected in London in January as a special guest of the Queen.
Dr. Christian Kargbo called on his fellow Sierra Leoneans to always think about Sierra Leone and not allow themselves to be carried away by the beauty of the West.
The president of the APC Chapter in Germany, Mohamed Bangura in his address, said throughout his 25 years’ stay in Germany, last Saturday was the first time three Sierra Leonean Ambassadors had assembled to attend a party gathering in Mainland Europe.
He promised to redouble efforts in their contributions towards the development of the country and the APC party.
The three Ambassadors partied with the hundreds of Sierra Leoneans and other nationals throughout the night to the astonishment of most people present.
“This is exceptional. I am proud of these people-Ambassadors. This is my first time to publicly rub shoulders with our Ambassadors”, said Dura Turay who drove all the way from Stuttgart to attend the party.
A cultural performance climaxed the occasion.
