TEGLOMA INTERNATIONAL PRESS RELEASE
September 18th 2006
TEGLOMA INTERNATIONAL PROFICIENCY SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
(TIPS AWARDS)
For Immediate Release
The Chairman of Tegloma Federation Inc., Chief Aloysius Foh wishes to announce on behalf of his executive, the Tegloma Federation Board of Directors and all Tegloma chapters in North America, United Kingdom and Sierra Leone the creation of the Tegloma International Proficiency Scholarship (TIPS) for the 2006/2007 academic year. Tegloma is a non- political organization of Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora aimed at contributing support to Sierra Leone through education, cultural and community developments.
Tegloma International will award a total of eight scholarships nationwide in Sierra Leone to students with the best WASCE and BECCE results in the four regions (Eastern, Southern and Northern provinces, and Western Area) of the country. The winners of the BECCE award will have their tuition and some school materials provided by Tegloma International until those students attempt the WASCE. Those at the WASCE level would receive a one time one million leones award to help them with transition to university. In addition, winners will receive a TIPS Award plaque and the schools producing the winning students in each region will receive a TIPS Award Trophy.
The scholarship scheme is a pilot program which Tegloma hopes to expand to more deserving students in Sierra Leone. Only Sierra Leoneans attending government or government assisted schools are eligible for the award. Chief Aloysius Foh or his representative will hand out the awards in Freetown at a later date after the results and winners have been verified.
Tegloma as an international organization wishes to make it known to all and sundry that this is a continuation of its dedication to the development of Sierra Leone. We in Tegloma believe that talk of development without encouraging education or excellence in education is akin to chasing the wind.
It is with joy that Tegloma embarks on this journey with the support and cooperation of the West African Exams Council in Freetown and the expected support of the education ministry. It is hoped that the TIPS AWARD will encourage a quest for excellence as it adds to the many efforts supporting education in the land that we love so much, our Sierra Leone.
Tegloma Scholarship Committee.
