Leyla Jeyte is one of the photographers working on the Black Women in Leadership project. She is a Somali-Canadian visual artist based in Toronto, Ontario. She approaches her work with gentleness and nostalgia while trying to visually hold the moments that feel the most authentic and emote feelings of reflectiveness, melancholy and vulnerability. Her priority is documenting the experiences of black women. Leyla was selected to receive the visual artists creation grant as an emerging artist from the Ontario Art Council (OAC). She also completed a residency and exhibition at the Robert Mclaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, ON.
