Sierra Leone: Loans for students now available

The parliament of Sierra Leone Tuesday carried out two actions that that will have a significant impact on the country.

One is the approval of the nomination of the first CEO of the new Student Loan Scheme and the second is the making into law the National Investment Board Act. This Board is headed by Dr. Marda Mustapha. The CEO for the student loan scheme is Mr. Paul Joseph Amara.

This is the first time student loans are available for university students or prospective university students in Sierra Leone.

It is part of the promises made in the manifesto of the current government when it was seeking power in 2018.

Parliamentarians hoped the scheme will be sustainable and targeted on poor and needy students.

The mandate of the National Investment Board is to encourage and assist genuine investors to do business in the country in an atmosphere of ease, safety, efficiency and professionalism.
