The Ministry of Information and Communication in Sierra Leone has announced, in a press release Friday, plans to sue opposition party members that physically attacked the Ministry’s Western Area Coordinator Alpha Saidu Bangura (photo) on Thursday.
There is a video on social media showing Alpha Saidu Bangura being attacked by individuals clad in red, the APC party colour.
Unconfirmed reports say senior members of the APC party were present during the attack but failed to intervene.
The attack happened at the Kissy Road cemetery in Freetown where Zulai Cooper, a prominent APC member and former Deputy Minister of Health was being buried. Alpha Saidu Bangura is related to the deceased.
The All Peoples Congress (APC), the main opposition party, has not yet responded to the MIC press release.
