In Sierra Leone, Christmas is celebrated by almost everybody including many Muslims, atheists and traditionalists. Likewise Muslim holidays are celebrated by almost everyone.
After th recent Christmas merrymaking and feasting and dancing, it is now time for work. Offices are full and busy again and the schools are back to their usual activities.
Today, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Dr. David Sengeh (left, with white shirt and grey trousers in photo), came out of his office, as he usually does, and visited eight schools in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.
He said, on Twitter, that the schools he visited where in Juba in the west of the city and at Kissy in the east.
Turnout was impressive in some schools - teachers and the pupils were in class. School is the safest place for our kids, and quality education is inclusive of Day 1 after holidays!, the Minister said.
It seems they were unannounced visits, not only to see the children but to also catch teachers who go to school late or who do not show up in school for some days in a week.
