President Ernest Bai Koroma has returned home after after his annual medical check-up in Germany to a tumultuous welcome by Vice President Victor Foh, Northern region Minister Alie Kamara and other government and APC party officials at Lungi international airport near Freetown.
Awareness Times publisher Sylvia Blyden is a former State House staffer who still maintains contact with the president. Writing on her Facebook page, Sylvia says the president is "hale and hearty" after his check-up, which he has been doing for the last 20 years "since the time he was a highly successful international business executive through his years as opposition leader to now he is doing his final term as Head of State."
Sylvia went on to reveal that the President did not go for a check-up last year because of the Ebola crisis, realizing his presence was needed at home to lead the fight against the crisis.
There have been persistent rumours by anti-government individuals and groups in the last couple of days stating that the president was gravely ill and had to be rushed to Germany for urgent medical treatment. That is not true, according to Sylvia Blyden.
It’s a routine medical check-up, she wrote.
