A Supreme Court motion filed by the People’s Movement
for Democratic Change (PMDC) party challenging the
eligibility of Vice President Solomon Berewa to lead
the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) while he
still holds office comes up for hearing on Tuesday.

Chief Justice Dr. Ade Renner - Thomas(photo) will preside
over the matter to be assisted by four other Judges.
The PMDC had earlier lost a similar protest when the
Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) ruled
that “as an ordinary citizen, Solomon Berewa is
qualified to contest for the office of President of
the Republic of Sierra Leone while he is still
Vice-President”.

In the opinion of the PMDC, the ruling is a
miscarriage of Justice.
Few months before he died in the custody of the
Special Court, Sam Hingha Norman, through his Lawyer,
Bubuakei Jabbie had challenged Mr. Berewa’s legitimacy
but the matter was thrown out by the Supreme Court.
