Quite recently, the heads of state of the three Mano River Union countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone met in Conakry, Guinea.
On hand at the airport in Conakry to receive president Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone and president Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia was Guinean president Professor Alpha Conde.
Public statements on the meeting were the usual affirmations of solidarity and cooperation in all areas among the three countries including trade, security, diplomacy at the international level and so on, but the nitty gritty or details of these discussions always remain at presidential level.
The Mano River Union is a sub-regional group within the Economic Community of West African States commonly known as ECOWAS, which in turn belongs to the biggest continental organization, the African Union.
