National Petroleum last Wednesday donated a cheque
of Le10m (ten million Leones) to the National
Electoral Commission (NEC) at the latter’s office at
Wellington, east of Freetown.
NP Managing Director, Mohamed Tunde Cole, said his
company wanted to identify itself with “the democratic
process that is going on in the country,” adding that
he believes the small token would help NEC’s
secretariat to meet its enormous needs.
The cheque was received by the Head of NEC Outreach
Unit, Miatta French, who said that they were shocked by
NEC’s gesture and expressed gratitude and appreciation
on behalf of her commission to NP.
Miatta said the mere fact that the NP management took
the bold step to go to Wellington was a sign that they
were indeed friendly towards the democratic process.
A notable absentee at the ceremony was the Chief
Electoral Commissioner Dr. Christiana Thorpe, who she
said was on other official duties together with other
senior NEC officials.
Those present at the ceremony were Sidi Bakarr the
Marketing Manager of NP, Bankie Richards - Chief
Financial Officer, Mrs. Abie Langba - Operations and
Clifton Aubee the Sales Manager. Also present were
other staff from NEC including the director of Finance
Mr. Koroma.
