Liberia’s Defense Minister, Brownie Samukai, has assured the newly-accredited Ivorian Ambassador to Liberia, Madame Elizabeth Toure that not a single inch of Liberian territory would henceforth be used to destabilize the Ivorian nation as it draws closer to the final chapter of its civil conflict according to an African Press Agency(APA) report.

Mr. Samukai(photo) said Liberia wants better and improved relations between Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire as the recovery process progresses in the two countries.

Speaking recently when the new Ivorian envoy paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Monrovia, minister Samuka expressed the hope that Ivorian-Liberian ties would be further strengthened in the years ahead.

In remarks, Ambassador Toure assured the Liberian Defense minister that her country would continue to uphold good diplomatic relations with Liberia.

"I want the diplomatic relations between Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire to be further strengthened," Madame Toure said, and emphasized the need for the two governments to work for the socio-economic improvement of their countries.

Relations between Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire hit at an all-time low before the ascension to power of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf-led government.

Former president Charles Taylor’s defunct NPFL is said to have used Cote d’Ivoire as a launching pad for its uprising in 1989, while Liberian fighters fought alongside Ivorian rebels during the years of conflict in that country.
