Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened last Friday August 21, Zetech University Complex at Ruiru, Kiambu County,to the north of Nairobi the capital.

" I urged universities to be bold and innovative so that they contribute positively to the country’s development. Universities ought to be dynamic in moulding a new generation of Kenyans who have the skills to take the country forward," Kenyatta said.

Writing on his Facebook page, the Kenyan leader said universities in the country "must diversify the range of courses they offer beyond the traditional mainstays to tap into the innovation age," adding that now is the time to acknowledge the pivotal role played by private universities in complementing the government’s initiatives towards enhanced access to higher education.

" I called on private universities to remain dedicated to their role in increasing access to higher education that is affordable. I urged them not be distracted by the desire to make quick profits, but rather stick to their calling to provide a service that is essential to Kenyans. The provision of education is not a business; it is a sacred calling that typifies society’s never ending drive to continuously improve itself."

Uhuru, son of Kenya’s legendary founding father and first President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, called on students to make proper use of their time in university.

"Joining University is not an achievement in itself; it is the beginning of your lifelong journey of continual self-development and perpetual learning. Universities should recognize that an institution is its people and not the structures. Treasure your students and staff, treat them with the respect they deserve, listen to them, nurture them and yours shall be a future of limitless possibilities."
