Journalists from the sub region who are currently participating in a two week training program in Ghana on Wednesday visited the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Centre here.
Bad leadership and mismanagement of natural resources always lead to conflict in Africa, Mr. Samuel Atoubi an expert researcher at the centre told the journalists.
Atoubi noted that conflict in Africa is the result of leaders’ failure not to seek the interests of their people.
He added that leaders seek their own interests and unequally distribute their country’s wealth while observing that lack of democracy was always generating conflict in Africa, as some leaders did not want to leave power.
He stressed the need for a standard to govern elections processes in Africa.
Giving some of the reasons that always leads to conflict in Africa Atoubi mentioned identity politics, poverty and bad leadership.
"Since 1990, democracy has been causing a lot conflict in Africa; however power sharing is not a good model for Africa and also the interference of the military is another issue," Atoubi said.
He outlined some of the issues studied at the centre as an ongoing process of peace implementation in Africa.
They also trained and employed of civilians for peace keeping mission in Africa.
Colonel Werner Rauber, head of the peace keeping centre said one of their main aims is to develop internationally recognized and professional training courses and related programmes in order to equip personnel with selected skills.
Dr. Kofi Annan(photo), the man in whose honour KAIPTC was named, is perhaps the most famous Ghanaian and 7th Secretary General of the United Nations.
The two week training is organized by the International Institute of Journalism(IIJ).
