Greetings Sierra Leone, and friends of Sierra Leone. On behalf of the numerous writers and contributors (all volunteers) of the Patriotic Vanguard I would like to wish you all a very prosperous, peaceful and enjoyable 2012.
The wish above was made for two main reasons:
1. 2012 is the year Sierra Leoneans will again go to the polls to elect their president and members of parliament. I would not like to comment on the chances of the incumbent or the main opposition leader because I am not a soothsayer but it looks like the opposition needs to work very hard indeed to unseat the current APC government. But that’s not the point I am trying to make. All I (and I guess most Sierra Leoneans) want is a peacful and transparent election. That’s not too much to ask for most people in the West but knowing Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans as I do, I can only pray for a violence-free and smooth election with no loss of human lives.
2. The negative forces of the global economy are hitting Sierra Leone very hard, with a rising cost of living causing huge headaches for the government and people of the resource-rich but struggling country. I, together with most Sierra Leoneans, can only hope for some changes in our country’s economy that would make life a little less difficult for our people. I see optimism in President Ernest Koroma’s recent New Year’s address to the nation and can only join him in wishing for a better Sierra Leone as we start another year.
Before I end this short message, I would like to inform you all that the Patriotic Vanguard, Sierra Leone’s flagship of excellent journalism is going to create more wonders this year. Those who know me very well would tell you I don’t make idle promises. So sit up, fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride. PV is going to take you places you have never seen before in the history of Journalism in Sierra Leone as the year 2012 unfolds. Igbin Ka Kru!
