According to a press release from the office newly elected Prime Minister, Mark Carney, he spoke with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. Carney (photo) won a decisive victory on Monday as Canada’s Prime Minister after taking over from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who resigned in January.

The release stated that President Trump congratulated Prime Minister Carney on his recent election. The leaders agreed on the importance of Canada and the United States working together – as independent, sovereign nations – for their mutual betterment. To that end, the leaders agreed to meet in person in the near future.

It is clear that Canada will always remain linked to the United States because of history, geography and economics. Prime Minister Carney recognises this reality, that is why he said he will keep talking to the Americans while beefing up Canada’s economy, defence strategy and other spheres while reaching out to more and more business partners around the world.
