Dr. Augustine Smith, the Public Relations Officer of the North America branch of the SLPP has told the Vanguard that Vice President Solomon Berewa(photo) was speaking the truth when he said recently that war crimes indictee Samuel Hinga Norman has endorsed him as the SLPP presidential candidate for the 2007 elections.
Speaking from his Atlanta, Georgia, base, Smith vigorously dismissed a recent statement denying the VP’s claim by Norman supporters signed by Reverend Alfred SamForay of Indiana, USA.
"Who would you believe, the Vice President or Samforay?. The Vice President has no reason to lie about this matter; he already has overwhelming endorsement from the SLPP and the people of Sierra Leone," he said.
He also wondered whether Reverend SamForay and his colleagues would have made the same statement in the days of the APC.
"Would SamForay have called Siaka Stevens or Vice President S.I.Koroma a liar?", he asked.
Smith revealed that the Vice President will be in the United States on Wednesday September 13 to represent Sierra Leone at the UN General Assembly and to meet Sierra Leoneans including SLPP supporters in the the country. He will also attend the Non-aligned summit in Cuba.
