Another Merger: RUFP declares for APC

Revolutionary United Front Party (RUFP) has declared
its support for the All People’s Congress Party (APC),
barely five weeks to Presidential and parliamentary
elections, scheduled for August 11, 2007.

The declaration was made public by the RUFP leader
Samuel Gbassay Kanu, who confirmed at the Party’s
office this week that the merger has already taken off
without any protocols.

Kanu said the membership of the RUFP has come to
realize that the situation on the ground is such that
it makes sense for his party to merge with the APC
considering the fact that the APC is the only way
out to the solution of the country.

He said he would like the whole world to know that
RUFP is now APC and called on his members to join the
red sun.

RUFP is the second political party after the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) Sorbeh to have joined the APC
and both parties have as their main reason the fact that
the “APC is the only way out”.

This latest development came as a big surprise to many
Sierra Leoneans considering the fact that it was
during the APC government that the RUF took up arms
resulting in 11 years of a brutal senseless civil war.
What effect will this have in the current political
dispensation remains unknown, considering the fact
that the RUFP has a fragmented membership scattered
all across other political parties as many fear to
associate themselves with the party.
