Sierra Leone captain Mohammed Kallon has ruled himself out of his country’s 2008 Nations Cup qualifier with Benin on Sunday.

Coach John Jebbor Sherington included the France-based striker in the squad hoping for his recovery in time for the Group Nine encounter.

But Kallon, who sustained an ankle injury during a league match last week, says he will not be fit for the match in Cotonou.

"I’m disappointed that I’m not going to play because playing for my country means everything to me," said Kallon.

"I want to wish the team good luck and I want my colleague players in team to know that I’ll be with them in spirit."

Sierra Leone played out a goalless draw at home with Mali in their opening group game last month.
