Liberia: Ellen Johnson Sirleaf expelled by her party

Outgoing Liberian president Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has been expelled from her party, the Unity Party. The expulsion was announced in a press release issued Saturday January 13.

She is accused by party leaders of supporting president-elect George Weah in the last elections and for for violating the party’s constitution and other anti-party acts.

Johnson-Sirleaf was expelled together with legendary political activist and UP senator Commany Wesseh, Madam Medina Wesseh and Patrick Worzie.

Worzie was expelled for alleged theft, while Wesseh and Medina were expelled for supporting Weah, according to the press release.
