A member of parliament for Waterloo constituency in Sierra Leone Dr. Princess Baba Jigida(photo) told a well attended meeting in her constituency recently that the APC bullied her and made her suffer when she attempted to contest elections for parliament several years ago.

Jigida, according to SLPP national publicity secretary Victor Reider, was speaking at the Waterloo community centre during a sensitisation meeting attended by Vice President Solomon Berewa who is also leader of the party.

The Waterloo parliamentarian added that the elections in which she was involved when the APC was in power were blatantly rigged by her opponents and when she sought legal assistance, she received the help of Vice President Berewa who was then a private lawyer.

The meeting, which was punctuated with showers of praise for the Vice President, was climaxed by the public announcement by the Chairman of the Waterloo District Council, councillor Allieu Badara Mansaray that he had decided to cross over to the SLPP. Mansaray was one of the pillars of the APC in the Waterloo area and a former opponent of Baba Jigida.

Vice President Berewa, amidst more songs and praises, was later crowned "First Gentleman of Waterloo" by members of the Waterloo constituency executive and other dignitaries present. The vice president was then dressed in a green, white and blue gown with a hat to match.

Also present at the meeting were Honourable Sheik Kamara of the Koya Rural Constituency and Mr. Alikalie Kargbo, chairman of Waterloo District.

The APC,the main opposition party in the country, recently threatened to expel Allieu Badara Mansaray from the party when he said at another venue that vice president Berewa is the best among the present presidential canadidates. The APC asked him to withdraw the statement and apologize or face expulsion. He decided to quit.
