African doctor opens clinic in BC, Canada

On August 21, 2009, Dr Pascaline Mahungu, a Congolese-Canadian medical doctor at Surrey Memorial Hospital made history by becoming the first African doctor to own a family practice clinic in British Columbia.

Her newly built Clinic named Grace Medical Clinic and located at 9655 137th Street in Surrey, was inaugurated at a simple but colourful ceremony on Saturday, August 22, 2009,

“This is a great accomplishment for the city of Surrey and its African-Canadian community in British Columbia,” commented Mr. Joseph Frimpong, Vice President of the Ghana-Canada Association of BC.

He continued: “The African-Canadians are proud that this good doctor will contribute to the health and welfare of British Columbians and Canadians as a whole.”

Father Augustine from St. Matthews Catholic Church blessed the clinic.
Dr. Pascaline Mahungu practices Family Medicine and obstetrics with special interest in gynaecology in Surrey and Surrey Memorial Hospital.

She is also Physician in Charge and the only physician at Maxxine Wright Community Health Centre in Surrey.
